- Kitesurf lessons
Groundswell set up the first kitesurf school in NZ and has evolved over the years to keep up with the demands of the sport.
Kitesurfing can be dangerous & intimidating .
Groundswell uses the I.K.O. (International Kitesurf Organisation) system which makes learning fun, safe & quick.
All teaching is done on the latest equipment & with the safest kites available.
Any previous boardsport or wind based sport experience helps to speed up the learning process.
By using the
IKO
system, teaching is fun, safe & quick.
- Water based lessons are approx 2hrs long with all equipment provided.
The number of water based lessons required is dependant on your improvement.
( We advise between 2 & 3 lessons on the water to get you to a competent standard )
- We only utilise the latest & safest systems to teach with. We only usethe latest kites from Cabrinha ( Switchblades IdS) , all of which come complete with the latest safety systems.
- All equipment in the school is designed to help the students learn the skills required with as much ease & enjoyment as possible. |
IKO Theory - Land based
$65 / 1hr lesson
IKO level 1 & 2 - Water based
$200 / 2hr lesson*
Maximum 2 persons / instructor .
IKO Level 3
$180 / 2hr lesson*
Supervised Rental - (IKO Level 2 & above)
Includes kite / board / wetsuit .
$190 / 2hr Session*
WHERE - We only teach on the protected waters of the Christchurch Estuary ,& only with the predictable Easterly winds.( Wind coming off the sea on to the land ).
WHEN - We can do lessons anytime , mostly from 4pm to late , & at the weekends .
All lessons are weather dependant.

Level 1 - Easterly winds between 8 - 15 knots , tide in
Level 2 - Easterly winds between 12 - 20 knots , tide in |

 Level 1
The best way to discover kiteboarding!
The first part of this program is dedicated to safety & its importance to the sport.
Then the student will be taken through the steps of piloting a kite. We use 2 line, 4 line, 5 line & bow kites .
Next, the student will be taught how to tow themselves through the water.
They will also be taken through the steps of equipment set up as well as launching & landing the kite
Ability level required .
- No Experience needed.
- Be able to swim
- Reasonable fitness |

Level 2
Ready to get up and use the board!
Learn to water start & get up & away for real
.Students will naturally improve their kite skills as they learn to control the board in conjunction with the kite . |

Students will learn to ride upwind, start jumping, turning & riding toe side.
Learn how to manage their practice area.

Start out in the flat water, get your balance and off you go.
Groups are small and personal.

Technique.

Sign up for our technique paddling sessions on the harbour & Lake Pegasus.
Technique sessions will focus on your paddle stroke to help you build on your basic skills and develop your overall ablitity..
We will work on:

- efficient board control including front side and back side turns.
All topped off with exercises to help push your techique to the next level.
